After months of fundraising and countless donations the Cedar Rapids Firefighters Foundation presented a giant check to the St. Florian Fire & Burn Foundation on Tuesday, Nov. 13. The check was not only giant in size but also giant in sum.
A total of $9,650 was donated to help sponsor children to attend the annual Miracle Burn Camp.
Firefighters and members of the Cedar Rapids Firefighters Foundation raised the money over the past several months, culminating with the CRFD Fire Bowl, a charity volleyball tournament, on Sept. 29, according to a news release.
The Cedar Rapids Firefighters Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization, chooses an organization each year and this year Miracle Burn Camp, which is sponsored by the St. Florian Fire & Burn Foundation of Sioux City, was chosen for its dedication to pediatric burn survivors, according to the release.
The camp is the only burn camp that has both burned and non-burned children attending camp the same week. Taking place at YMCA Camp Foster on East Lake Okoboji.
Burn survivors from Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota are given the opportunity, free of charge, to attend the week long camp.
