Clinton firefighter gets a welcome home from the hospital
More than a hundred people turned out Friday to welcome home injured Clinton firefighter Adam Cain.
Cain, 23, was injured Jan. 5 in an explosion during a fire at the Archer Daniels Midland plant in Clinton. The blast killed Eric Hosette, 33, a lieutenant in the fire department.
Cain was seriously injured and taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for treatment of lung and other injuries.
He was released Friday and taken, in a procession of vehicles, to the Clinton Central Fire Station, where family, friends and community residents greeted him and his family.
Standing behind his son, Kevin Cain grasped Adam's shoulders and thanked everyone for their support.
After about 30 minutes, Cain was helped into a Clinton Fire Department pickup truck and driven home, where his recovery will continue.
Cain's brother, Matthew, also is a Clinton firefighter.
The ADM fire and explosion remain under investigation by the Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
