JUCO safety Devron Moore commits to play for ISU

They had him at Kansas.

Junior college defensive back Devron Moore more or less had decided he wanted to play for Iowa State after he took an official visit to Ames Nov. 23 and watched the Cyclones dispatch the Jayhawks 34-0 amid bone-chilling conditions.

Tuesday, he confirmed his verbal commitment to Coach Paul Rhoads' program.

“They're graduating both safeties (Jacques Washington and Deon Broomfield),” said Moore, who picked ISU over TCU, Texas Tech and West Virginia, among others. “The facilities there are crazy. (They're) amazing compared to any other school I've looked into.”

Moore, a 6-1 190-pound free safety from Carthage, Mo. (via Northeast Oklahoma CC), cited his instincts and ball skills as notable strengths.

“I'm a free safety, so a lot of people automatically assume you're not as aggressive, but I see myself as a more aggressive free safety than others,” Moore said.

And yes, he knows who he'd follow if he wins the starting free safety job.

That's Washington, who closed his Cyclones career with more than 300 tackles - one of three defensive backs in program history to accomplish that feat.

“I see he's from Oklahoma and some of my friends actually know him,” Moore said. “I don't know him, but he's definitely a player.”
