Cornell College junior wrestler Joe Hambleton has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Hambleton was chosen on the 12-member second team in the District 7 College Division, which includes student-athletes from NCAA Division II and III, NAIA and two-year institutions. He was among five wrestlers from the Iowa Conference recognized on the two teams.
Hambleton is pursuing a major in physics and carries a 3.85 cumulative grade point average. He is a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American and Academic All-Iowa Conference performer.
To be eligible for consideration on the Capital One Academic All-District teams, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, have completed one full calendar at the nominating institution and carry a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or better.
Hambleton fashioned a 30-16 record at 165 pounds last season and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships. He earned his first berth to nationals with a third-place finish at the IIAC Championships. Hambleton led the nationally-ranked Rams in team points (132), 3-point near falls (22) and first takedowns (27). He was second on the team in wins (30) and pins (9).
