Cornell College senior distance runner Kirkwood Donavin has been named the Iowa Conference Men's Track Performer of the Week for the period ending March 27.
Donavin got his outdoor season off to a flying start by claiming a victory in the 800-meter run at the Emory Classic March 25-26 in Atlanta, Ga. He was the lone event champion for the Cornell men, which placed seventh in the 15-team field with 49 points.
Donavin beat 48 competitors in the seeded section of the 800 with a quick early time of 1 minute, 53.38 seconds. He nosed runner-up Mathew Shaffer of Anderson by .05 seconds. Donavin nearly met the NCAA provisional standard of 1:52.7.
Donavin has now been recognized five times as the IIAC's Track Performer of the Week since January.
The Rams continue their Spring Break trip Friday, April 1 at the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, Fla.
