Mustangs reach century mark in win over Peregrines

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Seven Mustangs scored in double figures and Mount Mercy reached the century mark for the second time this season in a 103-79 victory over Purdue Calumet (Ind.) in non-conference women's basketball on Saturday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
Mount Mercy (4-5) dominated all phases of the game, shooting 61 percent from the floor and outrebounding Purdue Calumet (5-2), 42-31. The Mustangs, who led by as many as 24 points early in the second half, also hit 10 3-pointers and were 17-of-24 at the free throw line. Mount Mercy has now scored at least 80 points in six of their nine games this season.
Senior guard Kadie Carman was 4-of-5 from 3-point range and led the Mustangs with 15 points. Junior guards Micha Mims, Laura Lippert, and Emily Greiner, and freshman forward Amanda Frost scored 14 points apiece, while junior guard Ashley Koch and senior forward Tonya Davis added 10 points each. Mims also had seven rebounds and a game-high eight assists.
Tierra Turner tallied a game-high 23 points to go along with five assists and five steals. Amanda Gaskin posted a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, and Alex Starr chipped in 19 points for the Peregrines.
Mount Mercy opens Midwest Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday, hosting eighth-ranked Grand View at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Mustangs also face William Penn on Dec. 4 and Clarke on Dec. 11 in league play before heading to West Palm Beach, Fla., for the Northwood (Fla.) Classic.
