MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- For the second time this season, Mount Mercy sophomore forward Chad Underwood has been voted the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Underwood, the MCC Player of the Week on Dec. 6 and Jan. 24, averaged 20 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 59.1 percent from the field as the Mustangs split a pair of league games last week. He had 18 points and five rebounds in a 75-73 loss at 13th-ranked Iowa Wesleyan, then tallied 22 points, six boards, and a career-high six blocked shots in an 83-62 victory at Viterbo (Wis.).
Underwood has started all 20 games and leads the Mustangs in scoring (15.8 ppg) and steals (24). His 21 blocks and six rebounds per game are second on the team, and he leads the MCC in field goal percentage, shooting 60.7 percent from the floor. Underwood is also an 81.2 percent free throw shooter.
Mount Mercy (13-7, 6-2 MCC) is on the road at Grand View (12-7, 3-5 MCC) tonight. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. at Sisam Arena in Des Moines. The Mustangs beat the Vikings, 76-62, on Dec. 1 in Cedar Rapids.
