Mustangs dominate the paint, upset 10th-ranked Bees

Bria Fields in a 74-63 Midwest Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over the 10th-ranked Queen Bees on Wednesday at Hennessey Recreation Center.
The Mustangs (10-9, 5-1 MCC) managed to stay in the game despite 21 first-half turnovers. They finished with 32 miscues, but owned a 47-23 rebounding advantage. Five Mustangs had at least six rebounds, led by sophomore guard Lindsey Reis with a career-high nine boards.
Fields went for a season-high 23 points and snared seven rebounds. Junior guard Micha Mims added 12 points, seven boards, and five assists. Junior guard Emily Greiner chipped in 11 points. Junior guard Ashley Koch had five points and seven rebounds, senior forward Tonya Davis five points and six boards.
Ali Dolphin filled up the stat sheet for the Queen Bees (14-3, 4-1 MCC), tallying 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and seven steals. Annie Smith was in double digits with 12 points, Mary Burmeister had eight. Ashley Dexter finished with seven assists.
Mount Mercy hosts AIB College of Business on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center. The Eagles will become members of the Midwest Collegiate Conference in 2011-12.
