MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa -- For the second time in three weeks, Mount Mercy sophomore forward Chad Underwood has been chosen as the Midwest Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Feb. 7.
It's the third such honor this season for Underwood, who was also the player of the week on Dec. 6 and Jan. 24. Last week, he led the Mustangs to a pair of wins while averaging 23.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Underwood, one of the top shooters in the MCC this year, shot a torrid 80 percent from the floor in victories over Waldorf and Ashford.
Underwood was 10-of-13 from the field during a 25-point night in Mount Mercy's 83-55 victory at Waldorf on Wednesday, then scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds while going 10-for-12 from the floor in Saturday's 77-58 home win over Ashford that gave Head Coach Paul Gavin his 300th win and kept the Mustangs in the hunt for a conference title.
Underwood and the Mustangs (17-8, 10-3 MCC) travel to Davenport to take on St. Ambrose (18-7, 7-5 MCC) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Lee Lohman Arena.
