Cornell College senior-to-be Tyler Bailey has been named to the 2011 Consensus Draft Services (CDS) Division III Preseason All-American Football Team.
Bailey, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound linebacker, was a first team selection on the 14-player defensive unit.
Bailey joined three other Iowa Conference players on the first team defense in Central end Shane Wong, Luther linebacker Kyle McGivney and Wartburg punter Robby Salmon.
Bailey, a second team all-conference pick a year ago, ranked second in the IIAC in tackles at 11.0 per game. He recorded a team-high 110 total tackles, including 70 solo stops. Bailey had 8.5 tackles for loss and posted a pair of sacks. He reached double figures in tackles six times last fall, including a career-high 17 in the Rams' Homecoming game against Buena Vista.
Bailey is a two-year starter on Cornell's defense. He enters the 2011 campaign with 165 career tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss.
Bailey is one of 15 projected starters to return this fall for second-year head coach Vince Brautigam. The Rams open the season Saturday, Sept. 3 with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Olivet College in Olivet, Mich. Cornell then meets Macalester in the home opener Sept. 10 at Ash Park Stadium.
