CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Coe came from behind twice on Wednesday night to play Mount Mercy to a 2-2 draw after two overtimes in non-conference men's soccer at Kingston Stadium.
Mount Mercy's first lead was short-lived. Sophomore forward Josip Druzijanic scored with a little help from sophomore midfielder Juan Maffey in the 15th minute. Less than 45 seconds later, Coe evened the match on Reid Galbraith's score.
Freshman Ramiro Alonso set up a bicycle-kick goal by junior forward Matt Rumery in the 39th minute. This time, Mount Mercy's lead held up for more than 20 minutes before Joe Frerichs, who assisted Coe's first score, drew the Kohawks even in the 61st minute.
The game was scoreless the rest of the way, including a pair of 10-minute overtime periods. Scoring opportunities were few and far between in the extra periods, with each team getting only two shots over the final 20 minutes. Senior goalkeeper Josh Putz stopped three shots by the Kohawks, while Grady Brown had three saves for Coe (4-2-2).
Mount Mercy (3-4-2, 1-0-0 MCC) jumps back into Midwest Collegiate Conference play this weekend, traveling to Clinton to take on Ashford (5-2-0, 0-1-0 MCC) at 3:00 p.m.
