[Men's Golf] Mustangs square off with nation's best in Nevada

PRIMM, Nev. -- A dozen of the top men's golf programs in the NAIA got together at Primm Valley Resort this week for the Battle of the Primm.
Mount Mercy was one of four teams receiving votes in the NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Eight of the remaining 12 teams in the field were ranked in the top 25, including the top three teams in the nation -- top-ranked Oklahoma Christian, second-ranked Oklahoma City and third-ranked Grand View.
Oklahoma Christian justified its top ranking, winning the team championship with an 862 total. Oklahoma City was second at 871, followed by Grand View at 874, 14th-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 876 and 11th-ranked California State-San Marcos. Mount Mercy finished 13th with a 912 team total.
Mustang senior Derek McConnell, junior John Milne and freshman Jacob Selander tied for 43rd at the 54-hole tournament. McConnell's 227 score included rounds of 78, 74 and 75. Milne shot 78, 77 and 72, while Selander carded rounds of 76, 81 and a final-round, 2-under-par 70.
Freshman Jack South tied for 66th at 235 (77-80-78) and senior Declan Hasson tied for 70th at 236 (81-79-76). Alasdair Dalgliesh finished at 8-under-par two claim medalist honors by two strokes over Darryn Els of Wayland Baptist.
The spring season continues this weekend for the Mustangs, who compete at the Grand View Invitational on Sunday and Monday in Ankeny. Action begins at noon on Sunday and 9:00 a.m. on Monday at Briarwood Country Club.
