The details:
Three Democratic U.S. Senate candidates have agreed to participate in a forum hosted by IowaPolitics.com at 7:30 p.m. May 27 at Ballantyne Auditorium at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
The three Democrats seeking the nomination to face Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, Roxanne Conlin of Des Moines, Tom Fiegen of Clarence and Bob Krause of Fairfield, will participate in the forum.
It is part of the “Cookies and Conversation” series presented by IowaPolitics.com and Mediacom. The Cedar Rapids Gazette and the League of Women Voters of Johnson County are partners in the event.
IowaPolitics.com Des Moines Bureau Chief Lynn Campbell and Cedar Rapids Gazette columnist Todd Dorman will moderate the program and questions will be accepted from audience members. The event will be broadcast on the Mediacom Connections channel (MC22) statewide and will be available for On Demand viewing on Mediacom Channel 1.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and taping of the show will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To register, visit this webiste or call (515) 309-2941.
Yes, they're allowing me to ask questions again.
And perhaps the first question should be for Tom Fiegen. "Will you now give us the good stuff, as promised?"
From the Iowa Independent:
Democratic Senate candidate Tom Fiegen says he has more ammunition he plans to fire at Roxanne Conlin. And he says he plans to use candidate forums today and tomorrow to release damaging information about Conlin, who is seen by many as the front-runner for the nomination to challenge U.S. Sen Chuck Grassley in November.
Fiegen told The Iowa Independent he has “more good stuff,” including negative information on Conlin which didn't surface during her 1982 gubernatorial bid.
Earlier this week, Fiegen criticized Conlin for accepting tax breaks even though she criticizes Grassley for accepting farm subsidies.
It's kinda rare to see this sort of thing. Babe Ruth could get away with calling his shot. I'm not sure Fiegen is in that league.
But it may make things interesting. I'm all for that. Debates/forums are often good-stuff-free zones, so this might be a landmark. Or it's all talk, and his bombshells will fizzle like damp bottle rockets. Place your bets.
I'll be there. The one on the blue suit, stripped tie, deer-in-the-headlights look. Can't miss me.
UPDATED -- I'm told Krause isn't going to make it tonight. He's in Arkansas and ran into flight delays. The Gazette's
