Texas RB: Iowa is a 'great spot' for Greg Davis
Feb. 24, 2012 1:14 pm
INDIANAPOLIS - Former Texas running back Fozzy Whitaker is a fan of former Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis, and Whitaker said Davis is coming to Iowa.
"Coach Davis is a great coach," Whitaker said today at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium. "He's put up great numbers since his time at Texas, and now I know he's moving on to Iowa and that's a great spot for him. I just know he'll do very good wherever he goes."
Iowa is looking for an offensive coordinator to replace Ken O'Keefe, who accepted a job as the Miami Dolphins' wide receivers coach. Multiple reports have Davis joining the Hawkeyes as offensive coordinator, but Iowa officials have not confirmed those reports.
Davis resigned as Texas offensive coordinator in 2010 following the Longhorns' 5-7 season. He led Texas' offense for 13 seasons and won the Frank Broyles Award in 2005 as the nation's top assistant coach. Davis did not coach in 2011.
"He's a passionate coach," Whitaker said. "He's one that he loves to get after it. If he sees anything that the defense may give up or allow, he's going to attack that. So you can see that he's very aggressive in his play calls and he knows that a play will work."
