Kirkwood women's basketball falls to Monroe in national championship

HARRISON, Ark. — Kirkwood fell one win shy of a repeat title, falling to Monroe (N.Y.), 62-56, in the NJCAA Division II women's basketball national championship game Saturday night.
Megan Axcell led the Eagles with 13 points, while Mackenzie Jenkins chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Awal Ajak and Tayana Wilson each added eight points for Kirkwood, which retired with a record of 34-4.
