Doug Deklotz, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at Unit Point-St. Luke's Hospital Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice in Cedar Rapids.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, at St. Stephen's Cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is assisting the family.
Doug was born June 28, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, to Wayne and Marie (Gerhold) Deklotz. He graduated from Atkins High School. On Feb. 15, 1985, Doug married Sharon Frederick at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins.
Doug owned and operated Doug's Garage in Atkins for many years. In addition to his lifelong membership at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Doug was active in the community, as a longtime member and former chief of the Atkins Volunteer Fire Department, and as a volunteer EMT.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Atkins; their son, Daniel; his brother, Mike (Pat) Deklotz of Atkins; and his niece, Jennifer (Joe) Eason of Port Washington, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Ron Deklotz.
Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church or Samaritan's Purse Humanitarian Ministry.
