IOWANS SEEK HELP FOR CHILD FUNERAL COSTS

Mar. 31, 2014 6:10 pm
A group of Iowans plan to visit the state Capitol Tuesday to ask legislators to support a bill that will help families that have lost a child deal with funeral costs. House File 2291 is currently in the House Appropriations Committee and still eligible for debate. Members of Sing Me to Heaven, a non-profit foundation created after a family lost a child and found out how difficult it was to pay for funeral costs, is pushing for passage of House File 2291, which currently is in the House Appropriations Committee awaiting consideration. The group is asking lawmakers to provide financial assistance to parents and families that meet certain income guidelines for funeral, burial or cremation, cemetery, or grave marker cost in the event of the passing of a child. Leaders of the organization say they already have helped over 40 families in Iowa but the need is much greater.
