Iowa Democrats turn to New York senator Schumer to headline fundraiser

Sep. 19, 2013 10:22 am
Iowa Democrats are turning to a New York senator to rally support for the party's 2014 election slate.
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has been tabbed to keynote the Iowa Democratic Party Jefferson Jackson Dinner in November, party chairman Scott Brennan said Thursday. The fundraising event is slated to be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines.
Schumer, the third-highest ranking Democrat in the U.S. Senate who currently serves as the chairman of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee in Congress, called it “a true honor” to be asked to address the Iowa party's premiere fundraising event.
“I look forward to discussing our efforts to help the middle class and the importance of electing strong Democrats to grow our economy and move our nation forward,” Schumer said in a statement.
