“Art is the Word: Text in Art” opens Saturday, Feb. 7 and explores how text appears in art.
The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art Museum Store is hosting a Trunk Show of wearable art from local artisans on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is also free to the museum that day.
At 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, Inside Out will hold a reception where some of the artists will speak about their work. Attendees will have the opportunity to gather and build support for artists impacted by incarceration. This show is a public outreach event for the community and is free to the public.
At Aaron Moseley and Laura Kerr’s Iowa City home, dozens of ceramic mugs serve as snapshots of the life they’ve shared together.
“Weaving Narratives: African Textiles in Iowa,” a current exhibit at the Stanley Museum of Art, highlights a selection of textiles from a collection of African art. Through written materials and video-recorded interviews, the stories behind these remarkable artifacts are shared by voices from the African community in Iowa City.
Based in Swisher, Iowa, Doug Flugum has traded boardrooms for blowpipes, servers for sculptural vessels, and spreadsheets for the shimmer of glass. His solo exhibition opens Saturday, Nov. 29, at Abbe Creek Gallery, 105 1st St. W., Mount Vernon, and runs until Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026.
Through Jan. 25, the University of Iowa Stanley Museum of Art has on international loan and display in its galleries an acclaimed early painting by American artist Georgia O’Keeffe — marking a rare opportunity for Midwesterners and a “culturally significant moment” for the region.
Guests to the museum will have the opportunity to meet and talk with all the artists in one place and to buy works of art in all shapes, sizes and disciplines. Artists will be selling paintings, prints, functional work, stained glass, collage, fiber art, textiles, jewelry and notecards.
The 40 works of art provide a compelling snapshot of the innovative printmaking happening in Mexico, and in Oaxaca in particular. The newly acquired works will be the subject of a stand-alone exhibition at the CRMA in the near future.

The exhibit, “Men and Women at Work: Images of Labor from the Collection,” will explore the world of work and workers and is open now through Jan. 18, 2026, at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
This fall, Public Space One will present a new multi-site installation art project, “Iowa Art Field,” directed by Nicholas Cladis, curated by Cladis and Sugimoto Hiroshi, and in partnership with the City of Iowa City and Johnson County. The project will be on display Oct. 30 to Nov. 8.
