Iowa State expected to sign 3 basketball standouts Wednesday
Nov. 8, 2016 1:35 pm
AMES — The Iowa State men's basketball team is expected to lose six seniors after this season, but could be halfway to replenishing that total this month alone.
Cyclones Coach Steve Prohm is expected to sign three high school players in the early signing period Wednesday with point guard Lindell Wigginton, wing guard Terrence Lewis and combo guard Darius McNeill joining the program.
Commitments from Wigginton and Lewis, both four-star recruits, and McNeill, a three-star, have Iowa State ranked No. 17 nationally, according to 247 Sports. The Cyclones rank second in the Big 12 behind Texas.
Wigginton, 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, is the highest profile player in the class. The Oak Hill Academy product, and Nova Scotia native, is the No. 53 player nationally, according to 247Sports. At 0.9788, Wigginton is the highest-ranked ISU basketball recruit in the recruiting rankings era. That data dates back to 2000 and puts him just ahead of Matt Thomas and Georges Niang.
Lewis, 6-6 and 195-pounds, was the first commitment in the Cyclones' 2017 class, pledging on Aug. 9. The Milwaukee native is the No. 2 player in Wisconsin and will continue the recent trend of Milwaukee players at Iowa State — following Diante Garrett, Korie Lucious, Jameel McKay, Deonte Burton and Donovan Jackson.
McNeill, 6-2 and 165 pounds, is the third guard from this high school class. As a combo guard, he can play on and off the ball and is expected to help fill the void left by the departing Monte Morris, Matt Thomas and Naz Mitrou-Long.
McNeill tweeted Monday night: 'I'm finally about to Sign this Wednesday to iowa state ... can't wait to officially be a Cy-clone #Big12 #gocyclones'
According to CycloneAlert of 247Sports, Iowa State still has its sights set on four-star forward Isaiah Stokes, a Memphis native playing at IMG Academy, and Tyler Junior College forward Eden Ewing for its 2017 class.
