Grassley would welcome Palin -- with conditions

Jul. 8, 2009 4:30 pm
Sen. Chuck Grassley would welcome Gov. Sarah Palin's support - with conditions.
"If she can raise a lot of money for me, yes," Grassley said.
He doesn't doubt the fundraising ability of the Alaska Republican who was Sen. John McCain's running mate in 2008, especially in Iowa.
"I think she has quite a following in Iowa," Grassley said Wednesday. "Maybe I'm impressed because at three events I spent with her in Iowa during the last campaign, she had bigger turnouts than McCain had.
Grassley is up for re-election in 2010. Fairfield Democrat Bob Krause is seeking his party's nomination for the Senate. CQPolitics.com calls Grassley's bid for a sixth term "safe."
According to the Federal Elections Commission, Grassley has raised $2.9 million. Krause has not reported raising any funds, the FEC said.
