Vander Plaats: Culver failing young Iowans

Feb. 5, 2010 10:15 pm
Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Vander Plaats chastised Gov. Chet Culver today for “failing Iowa's young people while they're in college and certainly after they've graduated.”
He vowed that as governor he would to devote more attention to holding the line on tuition at the state's three public universities and working to create more quality jobs.
“If you were to ask people what Chet Culver has done during his time on office for young Iowans, they'd say he hasn't done anything except preside over tuition increases and a shrinking economy,” Vander Plaats said.
Vander Plaats said two budget moves he favors to save an estimated $68 million are combining administrative functions at the three state universities and canceling all regents employees' sabbaticals for the coming fiscal year.
