Vander Plaats to be on 'Huckabee'

Apr. 30, 2009 10:13 am
Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bob Vander Plaats will be a weekend guest on the Fox News Channel program hosted by former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee.
Vander Plaats, a Sioux City businessman, will appear on "Huckabee" to discuss Iowa's same-sex marriage issue at 7 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday. Vander Plaats has been a staunch defender of traditional marriage and has led opposition to the April 3 Iowa Supreme Court opinion that resulted in the issuance of hundreds of same-sex marriage licenses this week.
Huckabee, who served 10 years as Arkansas governor, won an upset victory in the 2008 Iowa presidential caucuses. Vander Plaats, who was the 2006 GOP lieutenant governor nominee, was Huckabee's Iowa state chairman. Huckabee has been backing Vander Plaats's bid for the GOP nomination for governor. Vander Plaats has formed a 2010 gubernatorial campaign.
