CR students win women's history essay contest

DES MOINES - Four students at Prairie Middle School in Cedar Rapids received honors in the 25
th
annual Women's History Month essay contest, the Iowa Commission on the Status of Women announced.
Brandon Farr took first place in the sixth- and seventh-grade division and Maddie Fields was third.
In the category for Best Essays on Women in Science and Engineering for 6-7 Grades, Aaron Christensen of Prairie Middle School placed first and Morgan Exline finished second.
Students will be recognized at 1 p.m. March 26 in the Kennedy Conference Room at the State Capitol. They also will be recognized by a concurrent resolution of the Iowa Senate and House of Representatives.
March is observed as Women's History Month and students are invited to participate in the Write Women into History essay contest to celebrate women's contributions and to increase the awareness of those contributions.
