Roberts: More ‘questionable leadership’ from Culver

Feb. 5, 2010 9:18 am
Republican gubernatorial candidate Rep. Rod Roberts of Carroll called Gov. Chet Culver's executive order encouraging state government to use project labor agreements “just the type of questionable leadership that the people of Iowa have become accustomed to from the Governor's Office.”
The executive order Culver signed at a labor union gathering is just an attempt to pay off special-interest groups during an election year.
“The substance of Executive Order 22 has already been rejected by the Iowa Legislature and the people of Iowa, but Culver is now trying to make an end run around the legislative process to score political points prior to the November election,” said Roberts, a five-term State Representative.
With the Iowa's unemployment rate near an all-time high, the state needs to be enacting pro-business regulations that will create jobs, Roberts said. He has called for eliminating the corporate income tax and defending Iowa's right-to-work law.
