The third annual Alzheimer's Association Campus QUASH® at UNI will take place on Friday, April 20, 2012. QUASH is the Quest to Unravel Alzheimer's Scavenger Hunt. QUASHers compete in teams of two to four and are asked to raise at least $100 per person to benefit the care, support, research and advocacy efforts of the Alzheimer's Association. Participants will receive clues to take them to various landmarks and hidden physical and mental challenges called QUASHspots. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. and the scavenger hunt will kickoff at 6 p.m. The high-energy event will conclude with an award ceremony and an official after-party.
"QUASH offers participants an opportunity to use brain power, creativity and team building skills in support of the Alzheimer's Association. Having this type of unique event at UNI really gives students a chance to have a good time for a good cause," said Jessica Simon, Senior Coordinator of Community Outreach and Initiatives at the Alzheimer's Association East Central Iowa chapter. "It's a unique way for a younger generation to get involved in the fight against this devastating disease."
The Alzheimer's Association created QUASH, a completely new take on a fundraising event, to help raise money to support the organization's mission of eliminating Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Alzheimer's Association East Central Iowa Chapter works closely with the student organization "UNI Advocates for Alzheimer's" to plan and promote this campus-wide event.
Registration is now open at www.QUASHatUNI.com. There is a $10 registration fee per participant. Participants will receive an official QUASH T-Shirt, a free dinner at the event, and a chance to win various prizes. Campus QUASH at UNI is expected to attract nearly 200 participants and top a $20,000 goal. Sponsors to date include: Bronze Sponsor, Casey's General Store; Radio Sponsor, Q92.3; and Print Sponsor, Karen's Print Rite.
