Property tax credit July 1 deadline approaching
Jun. 14, 2016 3:55 pm
July 1 is the deadline for filing property tax credits and exemptions for homestead, military, disabled veterans homestead and business properties.
If you own a home, and it's your primary residence, you qualify for a homestead property tax exemption, which can lower your property taxes.
The credits and exemptions are 'one-time signings.” Apply once, and you don't need to apply again if your property use or ownership has not changed, according to the Cedar Rapids City Assessor's Office.
More information and applications are available at the Cedar Rapids City Assessor's website - cedarrapids.iowaassessors.com - and clicking 'credits and exemptions.”
In Cedar Rapids, applications also can be made in person from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays on the second floor of the City Services Center, 500 15th Ave. SW. Questions may be directed to the City Assessor's Office by calling (319) 286-5888.
Property owners outside the Cedar Rapids boundaries may apply from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Linn County Assessor's Office on the second floor of the Jean Oxley Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW.
Residents in surrounding counties should contact their county assessor's offices for more information.
