IOWA CITY - Rick Dobyns will be running for a second term on the Iowa City Council.
Dobyns expressed in a Sunday email his plans to run for another term on the council. He was elected in 2011 as the council's District A representative.
'My desire to run for another four-year term is based on a greater understanding of what can be done by a council member as a leader in the community,” Dobyns said in the email. 'I want to continue to address similarities and differences between jurisdictions with the intent on making regionalism operational rather than theoretical. I am very excited about leading careful planning of the downtown district and Riverfront Crossing as both undergo change.”
Looking back on his first four years on the council, Dobyns noted achievements including working with city staff through transitions in the city manager's office, encouraging economic resurgence in Iowa City and forming a coalition among the council to respond to concerns of racial inequality in Iowa City.
Dobyns has been with the University of Iowa for 27 years and specializes in family and geriatric medicine. He received his B.A. from Saint Olaf College and M.D. from the University of Minnesota.
