IOWA CITY - University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is named on a list of leading hospitals in the United States, officials said Tuesday.
“The Best Hospitals in America” listing is compiled annually by U.S.News & World Report.
At UI Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center, nine specialties are ranked overall. They are: otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), fifth; ophthalmology and visual sciences, sixth; orthopedics and rehabilitation, 12th; psychiatry, 20th; urology, 21st; neurology/neurosurgery, 21st; pulmonology, 23rd; cancer, 28th; and nephrology, 38th.
Jean Robillard, vice president for medical affairs with UI Health Care, said the rankings confirm the faculty and staff at UI Hospitals and Clinics provide patient care that rates among the best in the nation. The news comes after word arrived earlier this year that UI Children's Hospital was ranked in 10 specialties by the same publication.
