Larson endorses SOS candidate

Jan. 16, 2010 7:49 pm
George Eichhorn, a candidate for the Republican nomination for Secretary of State, has been endorsed by a number of prominent Iowa Republicans, including former Cedar Rapids legislator, Chuck Larson.
Larson, who served in the Iowa House and Senate, chaired the Republican Party of Iowa and served as U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, endorsed Eichhorn a former state representative from Stratford because of his understanding of the job. Eichhorn, an attorney, chaired an Iowa legislative committee responsible for the Secretary of State's budget and regulations.
“He understands the job and he would make an outstanding Secretary of State,” Larson said.
Eichhorn likely will face former Cedar Rapids mayor and one-term Secretary of State Paul Pate and Council Bluffs City Councilman Matt Schultz for the nomination to challenge first-term Democrat Mike Mauro.
He also was endorsed by Bill Salier, a well-known Iowa conservative leader, farmer, Phyllis Kelly, former Republican Party's National Committeewoman, Bryan Sievers, former Scott County Senator, and Kim Schmett, Polk County Republican chairman and Republican congressional candidate.
