Staed to seek re-election in northeast Cedar Rapids House district

Rep. Art Staed, D-Cedar Rapids, will run for re-election to in Iowa House 66 in northeast Cedar Rapids.

Staed, a Cedar Rapids educator and former small business owner, said he's “proud of the progress we've made in education, job training, and building a strong middle class.”

“But there is more work to do,” said Staed, who will announce his re-election plans at a kick-off party at 6 p.m. Friday at his home, 2905 Alleghany Dr. NE. The public is invited. “We need to expand preschool to more four-year-olds and make sure every child graduates with the skills necessary to land a good job.”

Staed is ranking member of the House Local Government Committee and also serves on the Education and Veterans Affairs committees, and the Administration & Regulation Appropriations Subcommittee.

“My top priority is growing Iowa's middle class and we can do that with affordable higher education, new job training opportunities for Iowans of all ages, and raising the minimum wage,” he said.

Staed teaches secondary education for Cedar Rapids Schools at Tanager Place and is active in the Cedar Rapids Education Association. He and his wife, Susan, are the former owners of Coffee Talk Café near Kirkwood College. They have four children.
