Pawlenty to visit Cedar Rapids for GOP fundraiser

Jul. 6, 2010 5:44 pm
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty will make a three-day swing through Eastern Iowa, including a stop in Cedar Rapids, to help Republicans win control of the Iowa Legislature.
“Gov. Pawlenty is working hard to help conservatives around the country win this fall,” said Alex Conant, spokesman for Pawlenty's Freedom First PAC. “We have great opportunities in Iowa, and Pawlenty is trying to build on that excitement through his new Iowa PAC and this upcoming trip to eastern Iowa.”
Pawlenty, who is not seeking re-election, is often mentioned as a possible 2012 GOP presidential candidate. He was mentioned as a possible running mate to John McCain in 2008 and since them has raised his profile with media appearances and visits to Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina – all early caucus and primary states.
In Iowa, Pawlenty will highlight a breakfast event for Rep. Steve Lukan, R-New Vienna, July 31 in Dubuque. He'll also attend an afternoon event for former state Rep. Bill Dix of Shell Rock, who is running for the Iowa Senate.
That evening, Pawlenty will be in Cedar Rapids for a fundraiser for House Minority Leader Kraig Paulsen of Hiawatha.
Aug. 1, he will attend an event with Rep. Jeff Kaufmann of Wilton in West Liberty. Aug. 2, he's scheduled to attend a morning event for the Scott County Lincoln Club in Davenport.
