Republican campaign veteran and former Waterloo Courier political reporter Eric Woolson is joining U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley's campaign as spokesman, the campaign announced today.
Woolson led former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee's campaign to a victory in Iowa's 2008 GOP presidential caucuses. He most recently managed the gubernatorial campaign of Bob Vander Plaats of Sioux City.
Grassley campaign manager Bob Renaud said Woolson has a unique relationship with Grassley, covering him as a reporter in the late 1970s and writing his biography in 1995.
“He has good understanding of who Chuck Grassley is and what he stands for,” Renaud said. “He knows Chuck Grassley has an outstanding message and record to communicate, and he's looking forward to getting that word out.”
Woolson also served as former governor Terry Branstad's communications director and Iowa communications director for George W. Bush during the 2000 presidential campaign
