Apr. 19, 2010 1:09 pm
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is including Rob Gettemy of Marion as one of tis “On the Radar” candidates.
Gettemy is seeking the Republican nomination for the U.S. House in Iowa 2nd District. He faces three GOP opponents in the June 8 primary. Then winner will face Rep. Dave Loebsack, a Mount Vernon Democrat.
“I'm honored to get 'on the radar' with the Young Guns program, because I know I'm on the radar of Congressman Loebsack,” Gettemy said. “This is a sign that people around the country sense what people around the district have seen -- this will be a different campaign. Fresh ideas, fresh leadership, and a clear chance to win in November. We have a lot of work to do, but this is a great step forward.”
“On the Radar” is the first step in the NRCC's Young Guns program founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Republican Reps. Eric Cantor of Virginia, Kevin McCarthy of Cal,ifornia and Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. The Young Guns program is a member-driven organization dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide.
The Young Guns program is designed to assist Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives in accomplishing goals and benchmarks throughout the election cycle focused on the fundamentals of a winning campaign. By reaching ‘On the Radar' status, Gettemy has proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve important fundraising goals.
“The NRCC is committed to working with Rob Gettemy as he continues to meet the rigorous goals of the Young Guns program,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions. “Rob is an accomplished, independent leader who will fight to create jobs and rein in government spending. I am confident that Republicans will wage a strong fight against Dave Loebsack, a loyal Democrat who has repeatedly put his partisan agenda before a healthy economy.”
