Pate endorses Schultz for GOP secretary of state nomination

Jun. 2, 2010 2:35 pm
Former Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate has endorsed Council Bluffs City Councilman Matt Schultz for the Republican nomination for secretary of state and will chair his statewide campaign.
Schultz is in a three-way contest for the GOP nomination in the June 8 primary. Former Rep. George Eichhorn of Stratford and Des Moines businessman Chris Sanger also are3 seeking the nomination.
Pate, a small businessman from Cedar Rapids, a former state senator, mayor and President of the Iowa League of Cities, pointed to elected experience in city government, knowledge of the issues and a youthful “fire in the belly” as reasons for supporting Schultz.
Schultz is serving his second term as a city councilman in Council Bluffs. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in political science and Creighton University law school. He's involved in his community and is an Eagle Scout. Schultz and his wife, Zola, have three children.
