ReZone Cedar Rapids open house set for Tuesday
Oct. 15, 2017 3:40 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids is hosting an open house on Tuesday to seek input on a comprehensive overhaul of the city's zoning code, which regulates how and where structures are built.
The open house - the third for the effort called ReZone Cedar Rapids - is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the NewBo City Market, 1100 Third St. SE.
Topics include design and walkability, which refers to the location of buildings and parking on a development site, tree preservation, parking, exterior lighting, renewable energy and the development review process.
City officials also are considering defining locations for form-based zoning districts that prioritize multiuse areas with an emphasis on walkability, how structures complement each other and aesthetics, versus traditional zoning, which separates land uses, such as commercial, residential and industrial areas.
City staff members are looking for feedback about the form-based zones.
The ReZone effort began in 2015, and is expected to conclude in 2018. More information is available at cityofcr.com/rezone.
