Edgewood Locker is recalling 207 pounds of beef sticks with cheese due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The company said no illnesses or adverse health reactions have been confirmed.
Listeria is a pathogen found in the environment. The very young, elderly, and those who are immunocompromised are especially susceptible if they eat product contaminated with listeria.
The beef sticks would have been purchased from Edgewood Locker in Edgewood or Greenwood Grocery in Farley. The affected product is identified on the label with a lot number 348 and a packaging date of Dec. 15, 2015.
Edgewood Locker said in a news release that the beef sticks are packaged in 8 ounce or 2 pound sizes.
The problem was discovered through routine environmental testing conducted by Edgewood Locker, according to the release. The company said it has taken necessary precautions to control any additional product and will continue to evaluate and take necessary precautions.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship's Meat and Poultry Inspection Bureau licenses and inspects facilities to ensure the products are safe and the plants are following all mandatory requirements.
Edgewood Locker said consumers who have purchased the beef and cheese sticks are urged not to eat them. The company said the products should be returned to where they were purchased for a refund or thrown away.
