CRF Frozen Foods and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have announced an expanded recall of all frozen organic and traditional vegetable products sold at Costco Wholesale, Wal-Mart and other chains,
The recall involves more than 350 products sold under 42 different brands produced in CRF Frozen Foods plants as far back as 2014. The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the products have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The organic and non-organic broccoli, butternut squash, carrots, cauliflower, corn, edamame, green beans and peas, as well as various vegetable medleys and stir fry products were processed at a CRF Frozen Foods plant in Pasco, Wash.
All affected products have 'best by” dates or 'sell by” dates between April 26, 2016, and April 26, 2018. Consumers who purchased the products may return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund, or discard them.
The CDC has informed CRF Frozen Foods that the government has identified seven people from three states who became ill and were hospitalized due to Listeria. The company suspended operations at the Washington facility on April 25, 2016, following an initial voluntary recall,
Consumers with questions can call CRF Frozen Foods' consumer hotline at (844) 483-3866 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. central time Monday through Friday.
The recalled products may have been purchased in all 50 states.
