Barta, Evelyn Marie
Evelyn Marie Barta, 91, of 3415 Dennis Dr. NW, died at Heritage Nursing Home on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, following a short illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by Monsignor James Barta and the Rev. Ardel Barta. Burial: St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Fairfax. A vigil will be 5 p.m. Sunday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit from 3 to 7 p.m. and again after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
Evelyn is survived by a daughter, Marsha Barta and her husband, Don Damsteegt, and a son, John “Jack” Barta, both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Robert, (Dee) Hospodarsky Jr. of Toddville, Tracy (Larry Allbones) Voorhees of Toddville, Michael (Mary) Hospodarsky of Marion and Jeffrey (Tricia) Barta of Nashville, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Hannen, Marian Kurt and Rita Hunter; brother, Denis Schulte; and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. (died April 28, 1985); son, Robert (died July 1, 1967); and three brothers, infant Edwin, Lloyd and Vernon Schulte.
Evelyn Marie Schulte was born March 13, 1918, in Watkins, daughter of Charles A. and Gertrude M. Boddicker Schulte. She married Donald L. Barta on June 17, 1943, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Walford. She worked in production at Amana Refrigeration for 26 years. Evelyn was a member of Catholic Order of Forresters and St. Jude Catholic Church.
Evelyn enjoyed playing cards and going to church.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mercy Hospice and Heritage Nursing Home which provided wonderful and kind care to Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Catholic Church.
