Achenbach, Richard 'Rooster'
Richard “Rooster” Achenbach, 60, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors.
Rooster was born June 16, 1953, to Leland and Nadine Duffield Achenbach, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Solon American Legion Post 460 and VFW Post 788 in Cedar Rapids. Rooster was a truck driver for GSTC and most currently Croell Redi-Mix in Cedar Rapids.
Rooster will always be remembered for his fun loving spirit and his love of socializing.
He enjoyed fishing in Canada, traveling and taking vacations. Rooster was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Cowboys, Hawkeyes and Cubs.
He is survived by his mother, Nadine Achenbach of Anamosa; son, Jason Achenbach, and daughter, Devin (Nick) Larrimore, both of Cedar Rapids; son, Lucas (Courtney) of Oklahoma; siblings, Jim (Sandi) Achenbach and Brenda Tritle; and seven grandchildren, Tenley, Mary, Cade, Anna, David, Stephen and Noah. Also surviving are his special companion of 18 years, Karen Boddicker, and her five children; eight stepchildren; and many loving grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Rooster was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
