Dale Louis Schafer, 68, of Anamosa, passed away Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour before the service Friday. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Survivors include his wife, Jeane; two stepchildren, Shawn (Laura) Lewis of Ames, and Stacie (C.J.) Sullivan of Anamosa; grandson, Lucas; brother, LaVerne (Ruth) Schafer of Anamosa; sister, Tampa (D.J.) Fobert of Arizona; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diane Sparks; and mother-in-law, Phyllis Rose.
Dale was born Aug. 6, 1945, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Josephine (Bruce) Schafer. He graduated from Monticello High School. Dale and Jeane were married Aug. 15, 1981, in Monticello. He was a finish painter at FMC and later at Rockwell Goss.
Dale enjoyed stock car racing, 50s music and dancing with his wife at the Surf Ballroom. Jeane and Dale loved to travel and always made new friends on their trips.
Jeane would like to thank everyone involved in Dale's health care, especially Dr. Kilburg, Dr. Boddicker and Mary Jo Henry.
