Noller, Wendell J.
Wendell J. Noller, 75, completed his journey on this earth Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at home surrounded by love. He fought a brave 10-year battle against cancer and although he lost the battle of his mortal body, his immortal soul went home to be with our Lord. A private committal was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, Feb. 10. A “Celebration of Life” will be held for family and friends at a later date.
He began his journey in Mankato, Kan., on Sept. 11, 1934, but grew up in Canon City, Colo., where he met his wife, Maxine Butterfield, and just celebrated their 52nd anniversary on Jan. 9. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Carla Boddicker and Cathy Beck, and one son, Wendell James Jr. More blessings followed with two sons-in-law, Dan Boddicker and Paul Beck; and eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Cheyenne, Michael and Matthew Boddicker, and Michael, Dumitru and Brian Beck. More blessings continued with Brian's wife, Alisa, and now their little son, Adam Daniel, the newest Cubs fan.
He served his country in the U. S. Air Force Reserve as staff sergeant in Colorado during the Korean conflict. He served his Lord as bus driver, usher, trustee, and deacon at First Baptist Church of Vinton. He retired from Quaker Oats in 1996. He enjoyed fishing, working on vehicles, tinkering, and fixing anything. He and his wife explored the country, especially Colorado, in their Winnebago camper. Joining them on many camping adventures, misadventures, tours, WIT Rallies, local camping, and winters in Texas, were best buddies, Barbara and Charles Sumner, who were also his wife's sister and brother-in-law.
Now he joins those who have gone before him - his parents, Howard and Lucy Noller; three brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by one brother, John Noller of Puyallap, Wash.; and one sister, Nadine Hopper of Colorado Springs.
We of like faith who are left rest in the sure and certain knowledge that one day at the end of our journey we will join him.
A special thank you to Dr. Mark Dearden, Vicki and staff at Mercy Oncology, and Michelle, Melissa and Laurel of Hospice Compassus.
The family requests no flowers.
Donations may be made to Cancer Research, Hospice Compassus or First Baptist Church of Vinton.
