Cahill, Paul J.
Paul J. Cahill, 80, of Coralville, died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Patrick's Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing's Oak Hill in Coralville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or St Patricks Church.
Paul was born May 20, 1933, in West Branch, the son of John A. and Teresa Fitzpatrick Cahill. He was a 1950 graduate of West Branch High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Paul married Lois Ann Barry in 1953 and later divorced.
On June 24, 1983, in Iowa City, Paul married Nancy Schulte Boddicker, his wife of 30 years. Paul was employed at Amana Refrigeration for over 32 years in production control and inventory.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Church where he and his wife, Nancy participated in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel for 21 years. Paul was also a member of the American Legion Post 721. Paul was an avid runner, a Hawkeye fan and enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Nancy; his three children, Pamela (Terry) Rogers of Kansas City, Mo., Joseph (Cindy) Cahill of North Charleston, S.C. and Timothy Cahill of Coralville; eight stepchildren, Renee (Tom) Clancy and Beverly (James) Docherty, both of St. Paul, Minn., Janet (Robert) Rampulla of Hiawatha, Amy (Mark) Copeland of Davenport, Julie (Doug) Lee of North Liberty, Neil (Kris) Boddicker of San Antonio, Texas, Catherine (Michael) Dochterman of Marion and Alan Boddicker of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jennifer Neighbors, Sean Cahill, Joe Cahill, Colleen Cahill, Chance Cahill and Alex Rogers; stepgrandchildren, Matthew, Michael, Hannah, Elise, Michaela, Jennifer, Daniel, Laura, Kevin, Robert, Scott, Alyssa, Monica, Dustin, Jason, Nathan, Seth, Jacob, Zachary, Jacob and Trista; six great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Paul is also survived by three sisters, Mary Catherine (Dan) Maher of Joliet, Ill., Marilyn Knapp of Saginaw, Mich. and Edna (Duane) Freking of Davenport; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Mackenzie Cahill; step granddaughter, Hallie Clancy; and brother-in-law, Dick Knapp.
