ARLENE M. BODDICKER Anamosa Arlene M. Boddicker, 90, of Solon, died Friday, April 6, 2018, at Solon Retirement Village. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. Arlene Mae Monk was born July 6, 1927, on Stoney Point Farm, rural Monticello, the daughter of August and Johanne (Harms) Monk. She was baptized and confirmed at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. She attended Country School No. 6 in Castle Grove and graduated from Anamosa High School in 1945. She then attended AIB Business College in Des Moines, after which she entered civil service and was assigned to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. After leaving civil service, she moved to Cedar Rapids in 1947 and worked at the Equitable Insurance Society. On April 26, 1949, she married Kenneth Boddicker at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Together they farmed in Walker, from 1951 to 1968. They then moved to Anamosa and farmed until 2000 when Kenneth died. Arlene continued to farm until she retired and moved to Monticello in 2006. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Troy Mills. She and her husband enjoyed playing cards and dancing in their early years. Arlene also enjoyed golf, bowling and traveling to Mexico with family. She was an avid reader who liked crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a talented seamstress and loved to bake bread and cookies, and would spend a great deal of her time walking everywhere. She is remembered by her children, Shari (Kevin) Huber, Solon, Kristine (Tom) Frimml, Ely, Karen (Dennis) Barfels, Iowa City, Suanne (Tom) Sedenka, Lisbon, Lisa Boddicker, Cedar Rapids, and Ken (Teresita) Boddicker, Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Kazebeer, Monticello; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Boddicker, Blairstown, Doris Milane, Denver, Colo., Geraldine Rushek, Solon, Carol Boddicker, Cedar Rapids, and Jean Petrzelka, Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded by her parents; a brother, August Monk Jr.; a grandson, Chad McNamara; and other beloved family members. Memorials may be directed in her name to the Alzheimer's Association. Her life ended, as she lived it, with her endearing smile!
