LAVONNE BODDICKER

LaVonne Boddicker of Washington, D.C., formerly of Newhall, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on March 5, 2014.
LaVonne was born at home in rural Newhall on June 16, 1940, to Carolyn (Davis) and Leo Boddicker. She graduated from New-hall High School at 16 years of age in 1957. She attended Mount St. Clare Junior College in Clinton and graduated magna cum laude from Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wis., in 1961. She taught in elementary schools in Iowa and Illinois for seven years, after which she worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison library and then attended classes at the University of Minnesota for a librarian degree.
LaVonne moved to Washington, D.C., to work for the Department of Science and Technology and subsequently, the United States Library of Congress, from which she retired from her librarian career in 2002.
She was a member of St. Matthew Cathedral parish in Washington, D.C., and was a very charitable person. She enjoyed watching baseball games.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Marilyn Scheib Freytag, Vincent Boddicker and Charlotte Boddicker; and niece, Angela Scheib, and nephew, Adam Boddicker, both in childhood.
She is survived by her sisters, Janice (Harold) Duncalf, Newhall, Rita (Ron) Johnson, North Liberty, Lola (Dick) Jacobi, Waterloo, Diantha (Nolan) Zadra, Cedarburg, Wis., and Rosalie (Bob) Jahn, Dubuque; sister-in-law, Pat (Jim) Russell, Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall. Visitation will precede the service at the church from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Patrick and St. Paul Cemetery, Watkins, following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall or the American Heart Association.
