A 45-year-old Marion man was sentenced Friday to 35 years in prison for sexually abusing and exploiting a child.
James Olds was convicted by a jury in March on seven counts - second-degree sexual abuse, exploitation of a minor, lascivious acts with a child, indecent contact with a child, lascivious conduct with a minor, false imprisonment and indecent exposure.
He sexually abused a girl between 2008 and 2010, when she was 3 to 5 years of age.
The child, now 9, testified during the trial that she didn't remember the incidents but when she was 6-years-old she told a forensic interviewer with the Child Protection Center that Olds touched her, exposed himself, took illicit photos of her and sexually assaulted her.
The videotaped interview was played for the jurors and in the interview the child gave graphic details of sexual abuse incidents that happened during that time.
Sixth Judicial District Judge Marsha Beckelman ran six charges concurrently because they merge with the sex abuse and sex exploitation charges according to state code.
No victim impact statements were heard by the court and Olds declined to speak when asked by the judge.
Beckelman also revoked Olds' probation in a forgery conviction because he violated probation when charged in the sex abuse case. He was sentenced to another five years but it will run concurrently with the 35 years.
Olds will have to serve 17-1/2 years of the 25-year second-degree sexual abuse sentence before being eligible for parole.
Olds also faces a third-degree sexual abuse charge in a separate case. That trial is set July 7.
