Cedar Rapids man sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for identity theft, wire fraud

A Cedar Rapids man who stole another person's identity to apply for credit cards was sentenced Wednesday to over three years in federal prison.
Terry L. Gantt, 28, pleaded guilty in March to one count each of wire fraud and identity theft in U.S. District Court.
Gantt admitted at the plea hearing he used the identity and Social Security number of 'G.D.” to apply for credit with Western Sky Financial LLC in October 2012 through February 2013. He also claimed he was G.D. in a telephone application to Western Sky on Feb. 5, 2013, but the financial company didn't approve the application.
Gantt also was ordered to pay $2,964 in restitution.
