Cedar Rapids man pleads guilty in copyright theft

CEDAR RAPIDS - A Cedar Rapids man who produced and sold thousands of counterfeit movie DVDs and music CDs pleaded guilty Monday in federal court.
Steven L. Brown, 45, pleaded guilty to one count of copyright infringement in U.S. District Court. He illegally copied and distributed movies and music worth over $25,000. During the plea hearing, Brown admitted to producing and offered for sale 1,510 DVDs and 492 counterfeit music CDs between December 2012 and February 2013.
Brown remains free on conditions of supervision set by the court pending sentencing. He faces up to five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
