Iowa wrestler arrested for September assault
Oct. 5, 2014 10:32 pm
IOWA CITY - Police arrested a member of the University of Iowa wrestling team early Saturday morning in connection with an assault in mid-September.
Jeremy Fahler was working as a bouncer at DC's bar in the 100 block of South Dubuque Street on September 13 when he punched a man twice while throwing him out, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim was treated for a broken nose, though Fahler denied hitting him.
'I'm a big guy, 6-foot, 195,” Fahler told police. 'I wrestle here, I'm a pretty strong guy. If I were to break a kid's nose, I'm pretty sure there would be blood and I'm pretty sure my hand would be messed up,” he is quoted as saying in the police document.
Online jail records indicate Fahler posted a $2,500 cash bond and was released around midday Saturday.
Iowa Wrestling's website lists Fahler as a redshirt senior this season who has wrestled in the 184 and 197-pound weight classes.
