DCI releases preliminary information on Johnson County shooting
Oct. 15, 2014 6:26 pm
JOHNSON COUNTY - The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says preliminary information indicates the victim in Monday's officer-involved shooting suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a release from investigators.
Johnson County deputies attempted to located a suicidal subject, identified as 32-year-old Bradley McNeese, on October 13. McNeese fled from authorities, leading to a chase that ended south of Shueyville near the intersection of Sandy Beach Road and Lake Manor Road.
Law enforcement said McNeese and deputies both fired shots after his car crashed into a ditch. McNeese was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were hurt during the incident.
As is department policy during officer-involved shootings, the Johnson County deputy who fired shots has been placed on administrative leave during the investigation and the deputy's name has not been released.
